Brinell Hardness Tester - High Volume BRE-AUT Series

The BRE-AUT Series of brinell hardness testers are specially designed to handle high volume Brinell hardness testing in a shop floor or manufacturing environment. In addition to the traditional brinell test the BRE-AUT test heads are equipped with depth measurement which allows for very high volume brinell testing.

The BRE-AUT hardness tester tests the hardness based on the difference of penetration depth between preload and major load, using loads and indenters required by ASTM and ISO Standards for Brinell Hardness Testing. After the major load has been applied the tester will immediately display the corresponding Brinell Hardness. The displayed Brinell Hardness is calculated based upon the difference in penetration depth between the minor and major load.

With this system, testing time is reduced by 85% compared to the traditional Brinell Hardness testing method. All measurements are performed with the standard Required Load and Indenter diameter; hence all indentations can easily be optically verified.

ASTM E10 / ISO Note:

In order to fully comply with current brinell standards the displayed Brinell Hardness value should be verified optically using either an automatic Brinell Scanning system such as QualiScope or using the 8x included eyepiece.

Deflection Safe Brinell Testing
Deflection Safe Brinell Testing

A unique design feature of the BRE-AUT test head eliminates the influence of test piece deflection on the hardness reading. The combination of an elastic deformation cell for load control and a Belleville spring group acting as shock absorber guarantees the stability of the applied load even in case of settlements or flexions of the sample or the supporting structure. Other brinell testing systems use a simple load-cell where minimal deflection (tenth of mm) will take the applied load out of the 1% variation allowed by the standard. Whith with the Belleville group we can guarantee the load is guaranteed tio be stable for the full 15 seconds of the Brinell test.

Unique safety feature

The BRE-AUT hardness tester has a unique automatic safety device, which in case of wrong positioning of the piece or contact with soft material (e.g. operator’s hand) immediately retracts the test head, avoiding faulty tests and accidents.

Simple Calibration Procedure

A very simple calibration procedure allows maintaining extremely accurate results even when testing different materials, modifying the relation between test material and indentation diameter.

The automatic test sequence is initialized through push button, foot switch or other external signal.

Standard test cycle
  • The test head moves towards the test piece, driven by an hydraulic cylinder
  • The indenter comes into contact with the test surface
  • Preload is applied
  • Then full load is applied for the time chosen by the operator
  • The measuring head returns to preload position
  • Readout of Brinell result on large graphic LCD display

BRE-AUT Model 100 and Model 300 are ideal in a high volume testing environment where an inline system is not feasible for various reasons such as variety in specimen size or budget constraints.

BRE-AUT 100 is designed to test small to medium sized components up to 400mm (15.7”) in height with a radius of up to 200mm (7.9”). The tester is available in either single or multiple load versions.

BRE-AUT 300 is designed to test small to large sized components up to 850mm (33.4”) in height with a radius of up to 250mm (9.8”). The tester is available in either single or multiple load versions.
