Testing for frictional properties of materials is very important to evaluate technical indexes that are to be controlled meet requirements for production to achieve product quality to meet product performance requirement. Qualitest QT-COF Series is specially designed instruments to evaluate frictional properties of materials to evaluate & measure those indexes effectively and efficiently.

The coefficient of friction COF, is determined by the ease with which two surfaces slide against each other.  The dimensionless value of the coefficient of friction is the ratio of the force required to slide the surfaces to the force perpendicular to the surfaces.  A lower friction coefficient indicates that the surfaces are smoother - there is less resistance to the sliding motion.


To test the smoothness, evenness and sealing strength of plastic film, paper, textile, rubber, metals and other materials, used in packaging industry, membrane industry, automobile industries, inspection agency, material research institutes, food & pharmaceutical processing and packaging, etc.

Working Principle

To analyze the coefficient of friction of given sample, two sheets of same or different test material is required to understand the Coefficient of Friction between them. One piece is clamped on the slider and the other is fixed on the sliding surface in such a way that both material slides on each other. The initial and dynamic forces required for the relative movement of samples are recorder and evaluated to calculate coefficient of friction. The test result is displayed after the completion of the test.

By measuring the smoothness of a product, the fastest running speed of packaging line can be realized.

Working Principle

The two samples are placed together. A long strip sample is fixed on the flat surface and another squared sample is applied force by a sled. The friction force is measured when they slip against each other.
