Qualitest is pleased to announce its QualiSpark Optical Emission Spectroscopy testers

Qualitest is pleased to announce its QualiSpark Optical Emission Spectroscopy testers

Plantation, FL
February 14th, 2014

To determine the specific elemental constituents of an alloy, companies perform Optical Emission Spectroscopy, heating the surface of the test material until it emits light. The spectrum of light is then collected for analysis, revealing the presence of specific elements by their characteristic wavelengths, and then the testing apparatus calculates the ratio of the element to the rest of the alloy.

To increase the speed and accuracy of this technique, our QualiSpark Optical Emission Spectrometers come in many models that can analyze both short and long wavelengths. Our base model is the QualiSpark 750, with a veneer-pattern lens frame and a solid-state adsorption trap that prevent optical chamber pollution resulting from oil and gas. The QualiSpark 1000 has additional features such as vacuum light room with a very low coefficient of thermal expansion, making it less affected by temperature fluctuation, and a highly efficient coaxial spark table that uses an internal gas circuit to decrease the consumption of argon. This feature reduces the residual metal dust inside the spark table and improves the overall stability of the instrument.

With a wavelength range of 120-800nm, and the world’s first multicenter synchronization system, our QualiSpark series is suitable for a diverse range of advanced applications such as pre-furnace analysis, production process control, and finished products testing.

Qualitest BT2 Concrete Rheometer

Qualitest Concrete Rheometer BT2

Plantation, FL
September 13, 2013

To ensure that fresh concrete has the properties necessary to be long-lasting and durable, it must be tested at various loads to determine its relative yield-stress and viscosity. By establishing these qualities of the concrete mixture, rheometers help companies regulate the quality of concrete on-site during construction, setting the standards high to keep concrete robust and resilient.

Qualitest’s BT2 concrete rheometer is compact, easy to use, and powerful. Other rheometers can’t compare, as they can only measure the shear stress of concrete at various speeds. This means that the machine’s probe must rotate several times in the test container, which takes time and risks damaging the testing material. To overcome this issue, Qualitest’s BT2 concrete rheometer performs a test that measures samples at three speeds simultaneously. One revolution is enough to gather all of the information you need.

The unique design of the BT2 concrete rheometer prevents structural breakdown and segregation during measuring, efficiently providing results without damaging the sample.

Qualitest Introduces its New Line of QualiCreep Creep Testing Machines

QualiCreep Creep Testers help companies avoid costly damage in high-pressure environments

QualiCreep Series from QualiTest

Plantation, FL
July 5, 2013

Creep testing is an essential technique for determining how materials change shape under long-term exposure to high levels of stress and temperature. This deformation can become so extreme that a component can no longer function properly – for instance, creep within a jet engine could cause the blades to contact the engine casing, resulting in dangerous and costly damage.

Creep testing is used by researchers and engineers to evaluate the durability of a wide range of materials and products, including power generation turbines, ovens, boilers, and pressure vessels. In a creep test, the material is subjected to a constant load at a constant temperature for a period of time, and its deformation is measured and recorded at specified intervals. The device then maps the strain over time to create a curve that demonstrates the rate of creep for the material.

The QualiCreep Series of Creep Testers specializes in measuring the performance of metals and alloys in high-pressure environments. Featuring high-precision lever weights that supply constant force, our devices provide 0.5 class accuracy that meets and exceeds ISO, ASTM, BS, SAE, and other international standards. The QualiCreep Series is also highly automated, which minimizes the need for human intervention and avoids the complications with manual adjustments seen in older models. Its PLC control system uses preset test programs to smoothly apply load to the test material and automatically provide heating, insulation, and cooling. In addition, a single computer can control multiple Creep Testers through a group control system.

Qualitest Creep Testers come in two models (the QualiCreep-30 and QualiCreep-50) that offer a diverse range of testing parameters and applications. Each device features an accessible touch-screen interface that displays temperature, allows users to set parameters, and enables online operation.

Qualitest Introduces the New Line of Optical Emission Spectroscopy Products

Optical Emission Spectroscopy from QualiTest

OES QualiSpark Series

Plantation, FL
June 24, 2013

Optical Emission Spectroscopy is the best technique for determining the specific elemental constituents of an alloy, as it has the capacity to show the exact percentage of each element present in the test sample. This technique is widely used by universities, research institutes, and metal processing industries for accurate elemental analyses of various metals, as well as in manufacturing applications such as metallurgy and casting.

To perform Optical Emission Spectroscopy, the surface of the test material is heated until it emits light, which is then collected for analysis. The resultant spectrum reveals the presence of specific elements by their characteristic wavelengths and calculates the ratio of the element to the rest of the alloy.

To increase the speed and accuracy of this technique, our QualiSpark Optical Emission Spectrometers feature a newly designed automatic tracing system that reduces operating costs and requires little maintenance, even with heavy use. The QualiSpark system also contains a highly efficient coaxial spark table that uses an internal gas circuit to decrease the consumption of argon, reduce the residual metal dust inside the spark table, and improve the stability of the instrument, which vastly improves the resulting data analysis.

Our QualiSpark series comes in four models (750, 1000, 5000, and 5000+) for a diverse range of advanced applications, offering outstanding performance in pre-furnace analysis, production process control, and finished products testing. QualiSpark Optical Emission Spectrometers are commonly used to analyze the following materials:

Qualitest Introduces the new Drop Weight Impact Testers for Plastic Pipes

Qualitest Drop Weight Impact Testers for Plastic Pipes

Falling Weight Impact Tester Model 300C
ISO 3127, EN744, EN1411

Plantation, FL
March 28, 2013

The new Falling Weight Impact Tester Model 300 is used to perform impact tests on plastic pipes, conforming to ISO 3127, EN744 and EN1411. Test pieces are subjected to blows from a falling striker, of specified mass and shape, dropped from a known height onto specified positions around the circumference of the test piece. The true impact rate of the batch, or production run from an extruder, is estimated.

There are two test methods – round-the-clock method and staircase method.

Weight Impact Tester Model 400
ASTM D2444

The new Falling Weight Impact Tester Model 400 is mainly used to determine the impact resistance of thermoplastic pipes and fittings under specified conditions of impact by means of a tup (falling weight). Three interchangeable striking noses are used on the tup, differing in the geometrical configuration. Two specimen holders are described.

ASTM D2444 covers the process used to determine the resistance of thermoplastic pipe and fittings to impact by a tup (falling weight) under defined conditions. The mass of the tup shall be 6, 12, 20 or 30 lbs (2.7, 5.4, 9.1, or 13.6 kg). There are three interchangeable inserts for the tup, Type A is a cone with a rounded point, Type B is a cylinder with a relatively flat surface, and Type C has a 0.5" diameter “pin” with a rounded end. Two specimen supports (either a V-block or a Flat Plate) are defined in the standard. The combination of test variables which offers reasonably repeatable results with the test being easy to run with little or no hazard to personnel is the one that should be used.

The impact resistance of thermoplastic pipe and fittings relates to its suitability for service and to quality of the processing. It may also provide a relative measure of the tested material’s resistance to breakage during handling and installation, and in non-buried applications, to in-service breakage. Results gathered by this test can be used as the basis for establishing impact test requirements in product standards; to measure the effect of changes in materials or processing on the product and to measure any effects of the environment on the pipe or fittings.

Qualitest’s RT-OIL - Optical Emission Spectrometer saves you time and money

Optical Emission Spectrometer

Ft Lauderdale, FL
Sept 5, 2012

The RT-OIL spectrometer by Qualitest can be used in correlation with both ASTM norms and DoD JOAP for oil conditions monitoring and failure prevention procedure. Typical application field varies from military forces, airlines, railways, marine fleets, public and private transportation companies, mines, refineries, power plants, oil plants, oil recycler, manufacturing plants, commercial laboratories, racing team and whenever there is the need for elemental analysis of lubricating oils, transmission fluids, fuels, hydraulic fluids and greases for wear metals, contaminants, additives and corrosive impurities for preventive maintenance and reducing the cost.

The RT-OIL Spectrometer is compliant to the ASTM D6595-00 Standard Test Method used to determine the wearing of metals and contaminants in used lubricating oils or used hydraulic fluids. This procedure is accomplished by Rotating Disc Electrode Atomic Emission Spectrometry.

The determination of debris in used oil is a key diagnostic method practiced in machine condition monitoring programs. The presence or increase in concentration of specific wear metals can be indicative of the early stages of wear if there are baseline concentration data for comparison. A marked increase in contaminant elements can be indicative of foreign materials in the lubricants, such as anti-freeze or sand, which may lead to wear or lubricant degradation. The test method identifies the metals and their concentration so that trends relative to time or distance can be established and corrective action can be taken prior to more serious or catastrophic failure.

CURACEM Curing Cabinet by Qualitest

CURACEM Curing Cabinet

Ft. Lauderdale, FL. USA
July 30th, 2012

Qualitest's Curacem curing cabinet is ideally used in commercial and on site laboratories for the standard curing of samples of concrete, cement and similar material in accordance with EN196-1 (cement) and EN 12390-2 ( concrete).

The frame is made of strong polypropylene structure, which is chemical resistant and particularly suitable for cement applications and the front doors are fitted with glass. The humidity inside the cabinet is maintained from 95% to saturation by water nebulizer while the temperature is maintained to 20 ± 1°C by an immersion heater and separated refrigerator unit. The Water refrigeration unit is to be ordered separately.

The four stainless steel racks of the internal frame can support the moulds with specimens and a large number of cement prisms. It can also be used for concrete cubes and other mortar specimens. The unit can also be supplied with an air compressor (optional), located on top of the cabinet.

The temperature inside the cabinet is maintained constant via water kept at a controlled temperature which is atomized in the chamber. For water atomization an external source of compressed air is required. This water is taken from an internal tank with a capacity of approx. 70 l, within which is a heating resistance, and is fed by mains water which is cooled by an external refrigeration group. In its stable condition the internal temperature is 20 ± 1°C, and the atomization of the water keeps the humidity above 95%. There is no water consumption at this stage since the hydraulic circuit is closed. When it is necessary to cool the chamber the water circuit is opened and the mains water suitably cooled by the refrigeration group is fed into the tank. The chamber is heated via the heating resistance in the tank.

Qualitest introduces the new Rheometer, Viskomat XL for Mortar and Fresh concrete

Qualitest introduces the new Rheometer, Viskomat XL for Mortar and Fresh concrete

The Viskomat XL from Qualitest is a versatile rotational viscometer for determining the workability of building materials such as mortar, cement and fresh concrete (up to 8mm grain size). This new instrument is the outcome of our long experience with Rheometers for mortar and fresh concrete.

Viskomat XL has been developed to fill the gap between our Viskomat NT for mortar and paste with a specimen volume of 360 ml and our con¬crete Rheometer BT2 with a sam¬ple vol¬ume of 20 l. The High precision synchronous motor controls the speed of the specimen vessel from 0.001 to 100 rpm in the direction, clock wise or anti clockwise. The speed may be defined in several steps either linear increase or decrease.

The Viskomat XL has a high torque range from 0-500 Ncm with a resolution of 0.05Ncm and accuracy better than 0.2Ncm. Qualitest also offer optional sensors to increase the torque range to 1000Ncm and an accuracy of 0.8Ncm.

The temperature is controlled by the circulating coolant liquid between the dual walls of the specimen container, while the temperature is measured with a RTD mounted inside the shaft of the probe. Our Viskomat XL does have an option to be operated in shear stress control mode, such that the speed is automatically controlled to achieve the predefined torque.

Qualitest announces the release of a wide range of Visual Inspection Machines to the rubber industry

Qualitest announces the release of Twin Bore Capillary Rheometer

October 2010

Qualitest announces the release of a new line of Capillary Rheometer R6000 Series. This laboratory grade twin-bore capillary Rheometer saves testing time by allowing the user to get two results in one test cycle. The other key advantage of this new R 6000 series is that they can automatically calculate Bagley or other corrections, which translates into a true measure of absolute viscosity. This Twin bore unit is also useful in detecting slip-wall effects. High slip at the wall may result from lubricants, pigments, or other additives. Excessive slip can indicate the need to reduce additive levels, which will save formulation cost and improve processing.

In conjunction with the software package the R6000 enables users to rapidly make high accuracy rheological measurements on a wide range of materials. Both shear and extensional properties of the specimens can be obtained, at rates representative of those encountered during normal processing, such as extrusion, injection molding, blow molding and film blowing.

In terms of product features the R6000 offers an extremely robust and reliable design based on an H-Frame construction rated at 250KN, with force drive capability of up to 100KN and twin bores of 15mm diameter as standard.

One of the key features of the R6000 is the high quality instrumentation and software user interface. The software is designed for high productivity and includes many ease-of-use features and very powerful analysis and reporting. The user interface is highly configurable and a series of user levels can be defined to restrict access to certain features of the software so that less advanced users can use the software without the risk of producing invalid results.

The R6000 also offers a backlit LCD display showing machine operating status and barrel temperature and allowing for manual user input via a keypad and thumbwheel. Impact Echo via Portable Impact-Echo System (PIES)

Qualitest Presents PIES the most advanced Portable Impact Echo System for concrete on the market

March 29, 2009

Testing concrete has always been a problematic and cumbersome endeavor.  Typical tests to determine concrete quality involve coring numerous samples in order to get suitable information through destructive compression testing.  Content and flaw detection generally performed by ground penetrating radar (GPR) and ultrasonic systems can typically penetrate no deeper than eight inches.  With the newly developed impact echo technology, concrete content determination is made accessible and efficient while dramatically reducing testing time.

ASTM recently announced its acceptance of impact echo technology under the ASTM C1383 standard.  Impact echo technology is based on the detection of stress waves caused by an impact on the surface of the test medium.  With the portable impact echo system (PIES), the technician is equipped with a patented piezo-electric crystal displacement sensor, a handheld palm computer and a set of impactors.  The test surface is struck causing a very slight elastic deformation that propagates throughout the material as compression (P) waves and shear (S) waves.  The waves propagate through the material, reflecting and diffracting off the inside surfaces of the material.  The waves are quickly detected by the sensor as they return to the surface of the material.  These very slight deformations are translated into a voltage and read by the palm computer for the results of the test.  A single test takes less than a second to perform, allowing the technician to run numerous tests on a vast area in very little time.  Comparatively, impact echo technology can cover the same area of GPR systems in almost a tenth of the time.

With an understanding of impact echo technology and the testing process, the technician can select the parameters of the test.  The user can increase or decrease the level of detail to find voids, honeycombing or most other inside imperfections in the concrete.  As the stress waves bend and reflect off the inside conditions, great amounts of detail are gained with a single test.  Furthermore, the stress waves propagate inside the concrete with very little deterioration.  Very little accuracy is lost with increased thickness, allowing the unit to perform reliably even to a depth of 30 feet, far surpassing the limits of ultrasonic and radar technology.

The basic function of the PIES is to determine concrete thickness.  As already discussed, this system can yield data on the solid concrete’s flaw characteristics.  With the included programming, the information gathered from each test can also be used to calculate other properties of the sample material.  Properties such as the static and dynamic elastic moduli and Poisson’s ratio can be determined without the need for destructive tests.  The determination of these properties also allows insight into the concrete sample’s compressive strength.  Because of the potential flaws inherent in the concrete, the compressive strength cannot directly be determined without comparison to destructive compression tests.  Even so, the information from crushing two or three core samples is enough to accurately determine the compressive strength at any other point in the concrete.  This method reduces an area requiring thirty core compression tests to three, reducing the time required, expenses accrued and damage to the finished structure.

The Qualitest PIES unit comes with everything needed in order to perform expert impact echo testing.  The handheld computer comes prepared for testing and need only be connected to the system to begin.  The handheld computer is protected by a dust-proof casing and the sensor power and conversion system is all supported by a light-weight power supply and signal digitizer.  An impact echo technology workshop is included in the package as well as an instructional suite including detailed manuals and texts as well as video training.  For more information on Qualitest’s PIES please visit our website at www.WorldofTest.com/impact-echo.htm. Qualitest offers flexible leasing/financing plans and provides nationwide service and calibration. QualiScope Advanced Automatic Brinell Measurement System

Qualitest presents the latest in Brinell Measurement Technology – Qualiscope II

March 24, 2009

Qualitest presents QualiScope II, the latest technology in handheld automatic brinell measurement systems. QualiScope II is designed to make your testing program faster and more accurate. It also improves quality control management - it automatically stores data and is network capable.

Although the Brinell test is widely known as one of the most accurate test methods for hardness testing of metals, error in the reading of the indentation size results in measurement errors of 0.1 mm between operators - the range is even greater between labs. This error can take up your entire tolerance specification. The QualiScope II will virtually eliminate operator influence on test results. Repeatability and reproducibility will be greatly improved using the QualiScope II measurement system; test results will no longer change with every shift change.

QualiScope II features a CCD camera mounted in a rugged protective housing and the advanced optics allows for measurements to be carried out with plus/minus 0.5% accuracy and a resolution of up to 0.003mm. The advanced image analysis software automatically measures the diameter of the indentation and calculates the brinell hardness value according to ASTM E10. All measurements are stored with their image which allows for re-evaluation of the results. The operator can freely select data sets for customized reports and export data to external quality control software solutions.

Increased speed and accuracy changes the capability of your entire Brinell program dramatically. Instead of being a rough quality control measurement to find defects, the testing can add process control functionality to quickly predict potential production problems and correct them before bad parts start streaming out the other end.

To find out more about how QualiScope II can solve your brinell measurement needs please visit www.WorldofTest.com/qualiscope.htm

Qualitest presents a new Hydrostatic Pressure Tester for plastic pipe

December 23, 2008

Qualitest presents the HPT series of Hydrostatic Pressure Testers. This new innovative Hydrostatic pressure tester features 3-10 individually controlled test stations, a fast processor and corresponding software that supports the automatic adjustment of the pressure for each individual test sample. The test parameters are set using a touch screen monitor, where the operator also can follow the actual test status.

The HPT series of Hydrostatic Pressure Testers are mainly used to determine time-to-failure of plastic pipe under constant internal pressure according to ISO 1167, ASTM D 1598. The HPT Series is available with three to ten test stations. Each test station operates fully independently and can be controlled to accommodate specific test requirements.

The HPT series can also be used for Burst testing, to determine the resistance of either thermoplastic or reinforced thermosetting resin pipe, tubing, or fittings to hydrostatic pressure in a short time period, according to procedure A and B of ASTM D1599.

This new line of HPT testers features a pressure range between 0-16Mpa, that can be controlled with an accuracy of +2% -1%, the pressure is displayed with an accuracy of 0.001Mpa and the maximum testing time is 10000 hours.

The HPT Series of Hydrostatic Pressure Testers are available complete with test tank and end closures. To find out how the HPT series will solve your plastic pipe testing needs please visit www.WorldofTest.com/hydrostaticpressuretesting.htm or call us toll free at 1.877.884.TEST (8378).

DIN Abrasion Tester

Qualitest presents the re-designed DIN Abrasion Tester

December 21, 2008

Qualitest presents the DIN Abrasion tester, which is the original product developed in Germany and sold worldwide. The DIN Abrasion tester is designed to conform to the ASTM D5963 and IS0 4649 standards (ISO 4649 has replaced the DIN 53516 standard).

This top quality and highly popular abrasion tester will allow you to measure the abrasion resistance of rubbers (vulcanized thermoset rubbers and thermoplastic elastomers) that are subject to abrasive/frictional wear in their actual service, such as tires, conveyor drive belts, and shoe soles. Since wear is always a result of abrasion, different test methods have been developed for the simulation of long term wear.

The method conforming to ASTM D5963 / ISO 4649 has proven to be the best way of simulating long term wear. This method enables comparative tests for the control of the uniformity of a specific material. The achieved test results provide important parameters in respect to the wear of elastomers in practical use.

The abrasion resistance is measured by moving a test piece across the surface of an abrasive sheet mounted to a revolving drum, and is expressed as volume loss in cubic millimeters or abrasion resistance index in percent. For volume loss, a smaller number indicates better abrasion resistance, while for the abrasion resistance index, a smaller number denotes poorer abrasion resistance. The DIN Abrasion tester can also be used for comparative measurements on other materials such as plastics, chalk or painted surfaces. To find out more about the DIN Abrasion tester please visit www.WorldofTest.com/abrasion.htm or call us toll free at 1.877.884.TEST (8378).
