Extensometers: Extension measurement is one of the areas that complements our range of UTM program. The result is a comprehensive range of high class variations. General purpose extensometers for axial tensile, compression and cyclic testing. Gage lengths from 0.5 to 2 inches (and 10 to 50 mm) and measuring ranges from 5% to 100% strain.
These extensometers are designed for testing a wide range of materials, including metals, plastics, composites and ceramics. All will work in both tension and compression. The dual flexure design makes them very rugged and insensitive to vibrations, which permits higher frequency operation.
They come standard with Qualitest’s quick attach kit, making it easy to mount the extensometer on the test specimen in seconds with one hand. The quick attach kit can be removed, allowing mounting of the extensometer with springs or rubber bands. Learn more

Concrete Strength Testers: This category of products comprises the range of instruments utilized to evaluate construction material strength. The range of instruments is typically considered to be two parts. The first are non-destructive field tests of compressive strength. The second are tensile field tester systems to either determine the tensile strength of an overlay or bond material, or tensile strength of anchors embedded in the concrete. The first group is pure Non-Destructive Testing where the strength of the material is determined by correlation to another parameter more easily available and readily apparent. This is typically the hardness of the concrete or the resistance to penetration by either a pin or probe. The Windsor Probe, Windsor Pin and our line of Rebound Hammers all fall within this category. These are widely used standard tests and as such have seen use throughout the world.
The second set of instruments is our concrete tensile testers. These have been optimized to both test the strength of the anchors and repair overlay material. They can be used to test until failure or to simply verify that the material will not be affected by a specific amount of force. A number of considerations were taken into account when designing this line of products, include viscous damping of the resultant failure backlash, portability, and ruggedness.

ASTM D638 Standard Test Method for Tensile Properties of Plastics. This test method covers the determination of the tensile properties of unreinforced and reinforced plastics in the form of standard dumbbell-shaped test specimens when tested under defined conditions of pre-treatment, temperature, humidity, and testing machine speed.
Specimens are placed in the grips of the universal tester at a specified grip separation and pulled until failure. For ASTM D 638 the test speed is determined by the material specification. An extensometer is used to determine elongation and tensile modulus.
A thermal chamber is installed on the universal test machine. The chamber is designed to allow the test mounts from the base and crosshead of the universal tester to pass through the top and bottom of the chamber. Standard test fixtures are installed inside the chamber, and testing is conducted inside the controlled thermal environment the same as it would be at ambient temperature. The chamber has internal electric heaters for elevated temperatures and uses external carbon dioxide gas as a coolant for reduced temperatures. The size of the chamber places a limitation on the maximum elongation that can be reached, and extensometers are generally limited to no more than 200° C. Learn more
