Approximate values
Hardness conversions are inherently approximate. ASTM E140 relationships are established empirically from steel test specimens. Treat results as engineering guidance, not as substitute measurements.
Convert between Vickers (HV), Rockwell B/C/A/D/F, and Superficial Rockwell scales. Built on ASTM E140 reference tables.
Conversions follow ASTM E140 reference values.

These reference tables apply principally to non-austenitic steels (carbon, alloy, tool, and hardened steels). For stainless, nickel alloys, copper, brass, or aluminium, separate ASTM E140 tables — or direct measurement — should be used.
Values between table rows are linearly interpolated. A scale shows N/A when the reference table does not define that combination — e.g. HRF above 99.6 or HRC below 20.
