Theory and Method

A low-temperature process thermostat works by removing heat from a circulating thermal fluid using a refrigeration system and transferring that cooling capacity to the user’s external load through continuous circulation.

  1. Refrigeration (heat removal): the compressor-driven refrigeration loop pulls heat from the internal heat exchanger.
  2. Heat transfer (to the process): the circulating pump drives thermal fluid through the external loop (reactor jacket/coil/heat exchanger) where the fluid absorbs process heat.
  3. Closed-loop control: the controller modulates cooling output to maintain the setpoint, compensating for changing heat load and ambient conditions.
