Glow Wire Tester - QualiFlame™ GWT

Glow Wire Test Apparatus for Electrical Insulation and Plastics

QualiFlame™ GWT glow wire tester performs fire hazard testing on electrotechnical products, plastics, and electrical insulation materials. An electrically heated nickel-chromium loop supplies the ignition source. Qualitest supplies the instrument to appliance manufacturers, component suppliers, polymer laboratories, and certification bodies. These users verify how a finished product or a molded part responds to contact with a glowing element. The apparatus covers 500°C to 1000°C with ±2°C stability and presses the wire against the specimen at a calibrated 0.97 N.

Two configurations are available, one with an integrated test chamber and one without. The chambered version encloses more than 0.5 m³ and carries a dark interior with a black test background, so faint flames stay visible through the large viewing window. A supplied exhaust pipe carries combustion products away during the run. Operators drive the sequence through a touch screen program, with a separate remote control box for work at the specimen.

A digital timer holds the 30 second contact period to ±0.1 s, and separate channels record ignition time and flame extinction time across 0 s to 999.9 s. Each channel logs automatically and accepts a manual timeout. An armored Type K thermocouple rated across -40°C to 1100°C reads tip temperature and feeds the digital indicator. Continuously variable current adjustment and a built-in ammeter give the operator direct control over wire heating. Fuses and a miniature circuit breaker protect the control circuit.
