Theory and Method
The IWS-200 uses a horizontal telecentric lens to image the cross-sectional profile of parts from the side. A parallel backlight behind the part creates a high-contrast silhouette that the 20 MP camera records in a single image pass. The telecentric design keeps principal rays parallel to the optical axis, so magnification stays constant across the full φ100 mm field regardless of part position within the 12 mm depth of field. This eliminates perspective error, keeping dimensional results consistent across the entire measuring area.
The Geomea software applies sub-pixel edge detection to locate part edges with greater precision than the pixel grid allows. Automatic deburring then removes noise and outlier points before a least-squares regression fits geometric elements to the cleaned edge data. This sequence achieves ±2.0 μm accuracy and ±0.5 μm repeatability, even on parts with minor surface irregularities. The algorithm measures points, lines, circles, arcs, angles, ellipses, O-rings, grooves, and rectangles from the single captured frame.
Flash measurement captures the full field in one image and processes it without moving the stage, completing a test cycle in under five seconds. The IWS-200 software memorizes part shape and orientation, automatically correcting for placement variation so parts placed in any direction on the stage are still recognized and measured correctly. Multiple parts on the stage are identified and measured in the same pass. All results write to a report automatically, including SPC output for downstream quality management.
