Theory and Method

Every object above absolute zero radiates infrared energy in proportion to its temperature, a relationship rooted in Planck's law of thermal radiation. The QualiTC™ 10 captures this energy in the long-wave infrared band, 8 to 14 micrometers, using an uncooled microbolometer detector array with 120×90 elements. Each element in the array changes electrical resistance as it absorbs incoming infrared radiation, and the camera's processor converts that resistance change into a temperature value for every pixel in the scene.

Raw pixel values become a usable thermal image once the onboard TisoView algorithm applies non-uniformity correction and contrast enhancement, sharpening detail across the 38° × 50° field of view. A NETD rating of 60 mK at 25°C means the sensor distinguishes temperature differences as small as 0.06°C, which lets the camera separate a genuinely hot component from normal background variation. Distance compensation adjusts the reading within two meters of the target, correcting for signal loss as infrared energy travels through air.

The laser indicator adds a visible reference point so the operator can confirm exactly where the center-point reading is being taken, since infrared and visible light do not always align perfectly on a handheld optical path. Combined with the camera's full-screen hotspot, cold spot, and regional measurement modes, this lets a single scan return both an overall thermal picture and a precise numeric reading at the location that matters most.
