Rapid CBR Puncture Tester - QualiGTX™ CBR R
Geotextile CBR Puncture and Burst Tester
The QualiGTX™ CBR R Geotextile CBR Puncture Tester determines how much force a geosynthetic withstands before a plunger drives through it, reporting peak puncture resistance in kilonewtons for geotextiles, geomembranes, geogrids, drainage boards, and geosynthetic clay liners. A 5 kN load frame advances the plunger against a specimen clamped between circular rings while the load cell records force against displacement. The peak of that curve tells a designer whether a fabric will survive angular aggregate pressed into it under overburden load.
Automatic specimen clamping sets the CBR R apart from manually secured frames. The machine closes the ring assembly under repeatable pressure at the start of every run, which removes one of the larger sources of scatter in puncture data. An industrial touchscreen microcomputer runs the sequence, plots the force curve live, and produces a formatted test report at the end. Result files export for analysis or upload to a laboratory information system without manual transcription.
Manufacturers, certification bodies, and construction quality assurance laboratories use the CBR R across the full geosynthetics range. The same frame handles a woven separation geotextile, a smooth HDPE liner, a composite geomembrane, a plastic geogrid, a drainage board, and a bentonite mat by changing the plunger and clamping hardware. That breadth suits laboratories that test several product families and would rather maintain one instrument than four.
