Video Extensometer (Advanced)
Video Extensometer (Advanced) is a non-contact video extensometer that measures strain optically, with no clips, arms, or markers touching the specimen. It uses Digital Image Correlation (DIC) to track surface patterns frame by frame, so labs can measure elongation, extension, deflection, and deformation throughout a tensile, compression, or flexure test. Because nothing contacts the sample, the system records strain right up to and through fracture, where clip-on devices have to be removed. Quality-control and R&D labs run it alongside a universal testing machine for accurate, repeatable strain data.
Built on the Quantum-3D platform, the extensometer measures axial and lateral strain at the same time without extra sensors, which makes transverse strain and Poisson's ratio available from one test. Each run is saved as images, so an engineer can replay it, move the virtual gauge length, or reposition the measurement points and recompute strain without testing another specimen. Most materials need no paint or applied dots because the system reads their natural texture, even mill scale flaking off a steel surface.
The Video Extensometer fits destructive tests and work at extreme temperatures or in hazardous conditions, since the operator stays clear of the load frame. With no wear parts to attach or remove, it avoids the slippage, misalignment, and gauge-length mistakes common to contact extensometers and holds calibration over a long service life. Analog and digital input and output channels link it to the testing machine and third-party devices for real-time, combined analysis.
