Cone and Plate Viscometer – QualiCAP Series
Cone and Plate Viscometer is a precision instrument designed for measuring viscosity across a wide range of shear rates. It features adjustable speeds (5–1,000 rpm), high accuracy (<2% error), and advanced temperature control options (5°C–235°C) with resolutions up to 0.1°C. Its user-friendly design includes multiple rotor options, a compact form factor, and compatibility with advanced data analysis software, making it ideal for detailed rheological studies.
Paints and inks often exhibit varying shear rates from production to application. As typical non-Newtonian fluids, their viscosity changes depending on the shear rate.
In general, paints experience low shear rates during storage, transportation, leveling, and sagging. They transition to medium shear rates when being pumped, dipped, or mixed at low speeds. During high-speed processes such as dispersion, rolling, spraying, or brushing, paints are subjected to high shear rates, typically ranging from 9000 s⁻¹ to 12000 s⁻¹. Accurately analyzing the rheological behavior of paints or inks at these high shear rates requires the use of a cone-plate viscometer.
The QualiCAP Series Cone-and-Plate Viscometer features a specially designed conical spindle that creates extremely high shear rates in the sample through the high-speed rotation of a stepper motor. It complies with ISO 2884-1: Paints and varnishes — Determination of viscosity using rotary viscometers — Part 1: Cone-and-plate viscometer operated at a high rate of shear.
