Geotextile Abrasion Tester - QualiGTX™ GAT

QualiGTX™ GAT geotextile abrasion tester measures how woven geotextiles, nonwoven geotextiles, and related geosynthetic products withstand repeated surface wear. Laboratories clamp a specimen against a moving abrasive surface, run a defined number of rubbing cycles under a fixed load, then pull the abraded specimen to determine how much tensile strength the material lost. That percentage of strength loss becomes the durability index engineers use when specifying fabrics for aggregate contact.

Qualitest North America supplies the QualiGTX™ GAT to geosynthetic manufacturers, third-party test houses, and civil engineering laboratories that qualify materials before installation. The instrument holds a 6 kg normal load to within ±0.01 kg, drives its lower platen through a 25 mm stroke at 90 cycles per minute, and counts anywhere from 2 to 99,999 cycles. Repeatable load, stroke, and frequency give laboratories comparable results across production batches and supplier submissions.

Abrasion damage rarely shows up during installation. It accumulates over years of ballast movement, aggregate settlement, and hydraulic scour, and it shows up as a fabric that no longer carries its design tensile load. The QualiGTX™ GAT compresses that service history into a controlled bench test, letting quality teams reject weak material before it reaches a road embankment, landfill liner, or rail track bed.
