Mobile OES – QualiOES™ M

QualiOES™ M is a portable spark optical emission spectrometer (Spark OES) purpose-built for high-speed, on-site metal testing. It bridges the gap between lab-grade accuracy and field practicality, making it the ideal solution for analyzing oversized components or materials that cannot be moved to a traditional laboratory.

The system features a modular design consisting of a portable spectrometer unit and an excitation gun, all mounted on a rugged trolley for easy transport across shop floors or industrial sites.Built on a Paschen–Runge optical platform, it utilizes digital plasma spark technology to ensure consistent, high-precision results.It provides stable, multi-element chemistry verification for a wide range of industrial metals, including:

Mobile OES – QualiOES™ M Application

  • Incoming material verification and PMI: Mobile OES supports positive material identification when heat numbers, MTRs, or tags cannot be trusted. This helps prevent alloy mix-ups before machining, welding, or heat treatment. It is commonly used for sorting scrap, verifying supplier deliveries, and preventing wrong-material incidents.
  • Weld QA, fabrication, and maintenance inspection: OES enables alloy verification on components already installed or too large to move. That supports on-site inspection of pipelines, structural steel, tanks, and maintenance parts. Results help confirm alloy chemistry before repair or joining steps.
  • Foundry and metal production control: Production teams can spot-check chemistry and confirm whether material meets target composition. Quick feedback helps reduce rework and supports controlled material flow between stages. It also supports audit-style verification during production changes.

Theory and Method

OES works by creating a controlled spark on the metal surface. The spark excites atoms in the sample, producing light at characteristic wavelengths for each element. The optical system disperses that light across a detector, and software converts intensities into concentrations using calibration curves.

QualiOES™ M uses a Paschen–Runge optical structure and a digital spark source with argon flushing for UV lines. This helps measure alloying and residual elements used for grade confirmation and pass/fail sorting.
