EN 50399 Burning Behaviour of Bunched Cable Tester EN 50399
EN 50399 Burning Behaviour of Bunched Cable Tester is designed to simulate a medium-scale fire test on bunched cables or fiber optic cables. In this test, cables are mounted on a vertical standard steel ladder and ignited using a defined ignition source to assess their burning behavior and combustion characteristics.
This test provides key data on how cables react in the early stages of a fire. The heat release rate indicates the risk of flame spread along the cable and its potential effect on surrounding areas. Additionally, the smoke density test evaluates visibility in the fire zone and the potential danger smoke poses to personal safety.
EN 50399 Burning Behaviour of Bunched Cable Tester consists of
Test Chamber
- Inner Dimensions: 1,000±100(W) × 2,000±100(D) × 4,000±100(H) mm.
- Construction: The inner wall is made of 3mm-thick SUS316 stainless steel. The outer wall is metal-coated and filled with refractory insulation.
- Temperature Measurement: Uses a Type K thermocouple (1.5mm diameter) with a temperature resistance of at least 700 deg.
- Resolution: 0.1 degrees, monitored via computer software. Two thermocouples are positioned above the burner to track chamber temperature during testing.
Chamber Air Supply
- Airflow Control: Centrifugal fan speed adjusts airflow to 8000±400L/min or 5000±500L/min.
- Piping System: Includes at least 4.5m of U-shaped pipes, 2m of corrugated pipes, and 2.5m of stainless steel pipes.
- Flow Measurement: An orifice flow meter with a throttling orifice plate and micro differential pressure sensor monitors airflow. Air volume is displayed and adjusted via software.
Ducted Exhaust System
- Hood Unit: 2m × 2m stainless steel hood collects combustion gases, with a baffle at the entrance for fume uniformity.
- Exhaust Ducts: 400mm diameter stainless steel ducts, at least 6m long, with spoilers at both ends for even gas mixing.
Ladder System
- Includes two standard-width ladders and one wide-width ladder.
Ignition Source
- Burners: Standard American AGF propane ribbon burners, Model 1914, 10" flame (10L11-55).
- Ignition: 10kV spark ignitor, operable via software.
- Placement: Burners are mounted on stainless steel trolleys, supporting one or two standard burners.
Propane Gas Supply System
- Air Mass Flow Controller: 0–2.6 g/s, software-controlled.
- Propane Mass Flow Controller: 0–1.0 g/s, software-controlled.
- Operation Modes: Automated supply, timing, and ignition via software, with manual mode available.
Combustion Gas Analysis System
- Instrumentation: Stainless steel bi-directional probe with a differential pressure sensor, three insulated Type K thermocouples, a smoke density measurement system, and a multi-hole sampling tube for gas extraction.
- Filtration & Treatment: Three-stage particle filters and a combustion gas pretreatment system.
- Gas Analysis: Measures O₂ and CO₂ levels.
