V-Path Correction

Dual element transducers feature a probe with two crystals—one for transmitting and one for receiving sound pulses. These crystals are separated by an acoustic barrier, creating a V-shaped sound path as the signal travels between them. Since this path is slightly longer than a direct route, V-path correction is applied to ensure accurate thickness measurements.

Measurement Modes Explained

Pulse Echo (PE) Mode
The standard measurement mode, PE calculates total thickness from the base of the transducer probe to the material’s density boundary (typically the back wall). This mode is ideal for detecting pits and flaws.

Echo-Echo (EE) Mode
Also known as ThruPaint™ Mode, EE ignores coating thickness, measuring only the material from its top surface to the density boundary. This ensures accurate readings without interference from surface coatings.

Display Modes Explained

Material Thickness Digits Display
The standard display on all models, showing numerical thickness values in millimeters (MM) or inches (IN) for straightforward readings.

Scan Bar Display
A linear graphic display that visually tracks thickness variations. With an adjustable scale range, it’s perfect for detecting small changes in material thickness.

B-Scan Display
A time-based 2D cross-sectional view, providing a graphical representation of material thickness—ideal for relative depth analysis.

A-Scan Display; Full Wave (RF):*

Displays the complete sine wave generated by the reflected sound, providing a full waveform view for detailed analysis.

A-Scan Display; Rectified (+ or -):*

Users can choose to view either the positive or negative cycle of the full waveform. This mode represents echo amplitude versus transit time, offering a simplified and focused display for precise measurement interpretation.

Repeatability & Stability Indicator

A six-bar visual indicator ensures reliable measurements. When all bars are fully illuminated and the last digit of the thickness value remains stable, the reading is accurate.

High-Speed Scan with Minimum Thickness Display

This mode boosts the measurement refresh rate, allowing smooth scanning over materials. The smallest recorded thickness is saved and displayed once scanning is complete. It can also work with minimum and maximum limit alarms (model dependent).

Differential Mode

Displays the +/– thickness difference from a user-defined nominal value for easy comparison.

Limit Alarm Mode

Set minimum and maximum thickness limits—if a reading falls outside the range, a red LED and audible alert activate. A green LED confirms acceptable thickness.
